Winning Films from Festivals in Venice, Cannes, Toronto and San Sebastian in Slovak Premieres at Bratislava IFF

 

The Cinema Now section will present some of the most notable films of this year’s festival season. The retro fantasy The Shape of Water (2017) directedy by Guillermo del Toro, the black comedy Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017) directed by Martin McDonagh and the family drama April’s Daughter (Las hijas de Abril, 2017) directedy by Mexican filmmaker Michel Franco.

Bratislava IFF presents competing films

 

The competing film selection of the Bratislava IFF’s 19th edition will once again offer a diverse range of topics and approaches rendered by several upcoming yet formally distinctive directors. They’ll compete in the sections of the first and second feature films, first and second documentary films, and shorts. The aim of the festival remains to spotlight young film and explore the contemporary world cinema for its most distinctive talents.

This year again national as well as foreign film professionals will meet in the jury seats of the Bratislava International Film Festival to decide about its winners. The films will compete in three categories – the first and second feature films, first and second documentaries and short films.

Opening film and a new perspective on the art of film acting

 

The upcoming 19th edition of the Bratislava International Film Festival will bring a new perspective on the art of film acting, new local releases in their film premieres as well as award-winning hits from festivals around the world. The main faces of the festival will be the remarkable star actor Jean-Marc Barr and the award-winning Canadian director Denis Côté.

Prize for the Best Fiction Film of 18th Bratislava IFF Goes to Lebanese-French Co-Production Tramontane

At its closing ceremony, the 18th Bratislava International Film Festival announced the winners of all competitive categories including three international competitions. The main awards went to Tramontane (2016) in the category of fiction films, Communion (Komunia, 2016) in the category of documentary films and Adaptation (Adaptacja, 2016) in the category of short films.

Bratislava IFF to Honour Actor Martin Huba, Preview Portrait of Irena Brežná

Martin Huba, one of the most accomplished Slovak actors of his generation, will receive the award for lifetime artistic achievement during a closing ceremony scheduled for November 16. On November 1 5 the  festival will screen a documentary portrait of Irena Brežná, an award-winning Slovak author, as part of the special Made in Slovakia section.

Bratislava IFF Will Honour Yugoslav Actor Rade Šerbedžija with Artistic Excellence in World Cinematography Award

The 2016 edition of the Bratislava International Film Festival (BIFF) is proud to welcome Rade Šerbedžija, one of the most accomplished Yugoslav actors of all time. A “renaissance man” from Croatia who has made it all the way to Hollywood, Šerbedžija will arrive in Bratislava to receive the Award for Artistic Excellence in World Cinematography and to present his directorial debut, The Liberation of Skopje (Osloboduvanje na Skopje, 2016).

The World According to Europe’s Leading Modern Filmmakers

The Bratislava International Film Festival (BIFF) will soon take a look back at this years festival season and bring to the Slovak audience films that have climbed high at the most prestigious summits of the cinema world. Rolls Out the Red Carpet

17th edition of International Film Festival Bratislava will open its gates on Thursday with the Slovak premiere of Steve Jobs, an eagerly-expected biopic starring Michael Fassbender. Besides a heavy load of top-notch films, discussions with filmmakers and a unique “warm-up” projection, festival-goers can look forward to a great multitude of side events – ranging from nostalgic screenings of VHS classics directly off videocassettes, to a special programme for youngest cinema buffs, to concerts and stylish DJ shows, to the ever-popular Slippers Night. The Bratislava Film Festival will take place between from November 12 – 17, in three popular municipal theatres – three cinemas of Kino Lumière as well as in Kino Mladosť and Kino Nostalgia.
