Due to technical problems during the previous screening of the film HOUSE WITHOUT ROOF (dir.Soleen Yusef), we added a special screening on Sunday, November 12 at 1pm in Kine Lumière K4.

The story of the three siblings of Iranian director Soleen Yusef is selected to the Fiction Competition. If you were out from the screening on Friday 10.11. 2017 and you still have a ticket from kino Mladost, our colleagues at the box office print you new 0 € ticket for this special screening.

Three siblings born in Iraqi Kurdistan but raised in Germany return to theirhomeland for their mother’s funeral. Her last wish is to be buried next to their father in their native village but their uncle refuses to grant his sister’s wish. The siblings therefore decide to steal their mother’s coffin and flee in a pickup truck through the desolate landscape. During their odyssey, they are not only confronted with their vast Kurdish family but also with one another in a drama on severed family relations and the process of rediscovering one’s own history.Directress Soleen Yusef, herself a German citizen with roots in the depicted area, chips in a Kurdish version of infamous historical events as the film reflects on the massacres of Kurds in Northern Iraq by Saddam Hussein’s regime in the 1980s. However, as the siblings gradually come to terms with the past, news reports of ISIS advance and the siege of Mosul point out the contemporary reality and violence in this politically unstable region.

The documentary film directed by Soňa Maletzová is a portrait of Marián Varga, a legend of the Czechoslovak music scene. As many suchlike films, this one too reflects a particularly difficult time in the life of the artist – a different, original, innovative, progressive and controversial musician. Some found his style, artistic and life alike, crazy, whereas others imitated and loved it.

This year the renowned Canadian director of experimental, documentary and fiction films Denis Côté comes with his new release A Skin So Soft, combining all these three types of film, although most of all, it can be labelled a documentary. The filmmaker follows a group of bodybuilders throughout their everyday lives, but focuses mainly on various activities related to weight training and working out, their mutual hobbies.
